Oscar the Dog and the Snow Storm

I had a fun shoot with Oscar today. He's a beautiful 8 year old Golden Retriever....and he was having NOTHING to do with me today.

Oscar and his owner George Bryson decided to have a family portrait taken today at a beautiful park for Sandra, Oscar's Mom. The problem: lots of dogs, and lots of snow and lots of sticks. He did not want to sit for me at all! It didn't matter though. This one-eyed pup stole my heart and he could do no wrong in my books. I think he's just adorable.

As for the snow storm....I could have done without it. It made me cancel my plans for the second night in a row with my friend Sarah. Really not good with that.

So, I'm inside working on photos and blogging to you....and trying really hard not to look out the window. Brrr...

Superbowl tomorrow!!

Worth the wait....

I know, I posted a teaser weeks ago but isn't it worth the wait to see the adorable Ellie?

My friend Sarah leaves on Tuesday to go back to Vancouver (I'm very sad about this), and I wanted to make sure she had the photos in her hands before she flew away. Tomorrow we're going out for dinner and just have fun on one of the last nights I'll get to see her before she goes back.

So, here she is with her husband Scott (you have to hear him with the baby....hilariously cute!), and little Ellie who is just too adorable.

I have three upcoming photoshoots....all very different. Stay tuned for those! And I promise I'll be quicker with the editing and posting.

The Wimpiest of all Wimps....

I am a wimp. A big baby. I cry, moan, complain and literally want to die when I'm sick. It seems the Cold Gods want to do me in....or they're testing me somehow. Today I didn't move from the couch. I laid down exactly where I have been for the past three days now. I caught up with old friends, Ellen, Oprah and Kelly Ripa. Still not better.

The problem is, when someone like me gets sick.....she needs medicine and lots of it! But because I'm now expecting a baby, I can't have anything. Not fair!

So, I'm stuck at home whining to my poor pets.....and even they gave up cuddling with me because of it.

So, now that I"ve whined to you I'll leave you with happier thoughts. Here are some pictures from the recent photographers meet-up I went to on Thursday. I met a lot of new people and I was so welcomed as a newby on the scene. It was a huge boost for me! Ahh, just thinking about that night made by cough stop a bit.....maybe not.

Where Have I been?

I know, I haven't posted anything in a long time. But to be honest, there just wasn't anything to talk about just yet.
Tonight my photographer friends from Rowell Photography (rowellphoto.ca) organized this photographers Pub Night and I'm so excited. As a new person the scene I'm so pumped to meet so many talented people who have all been in my shoes at one point.
If I'm not to intimidated, I'll be whipping out my camera tonight and I'll show you some of the pics.

And because posts are boring without pics, here's a pic to show you just how much fun I can be at a party (and yes, I'm a bad dancer):

ffffffrrreezing!

I live in Ontario. North of Toronto and right smack dab in between two lakes. It's called the snowbelt and believe me, it lives up to it's name.

But the one thing I'm definitely not used to is how cold it is right now. It's really cold. That would be -30 when I woke up this morning (sorry American friends, don't know what that is in your degrees....but it's cold).

It was so cold you can hear the snow crunching beneath your feet. You car barely starts (thank God I'm the one in the garage), and it takes FOREVER to warm up after work when you've been outside working in it all day. Your eyes water, your nose runs and your hands are numb within seconds of being outside. Within minutes you're in agony because your skin hurts. Fun, huh?

My parents are leaving for Mexico tomorrow and I'm very jealous. I'll be thinking of them when I shiver in the cold. The cold that's supposed to last until next week!

Enough of my griping. Here's a photo I took of my beloved City: Barrie, Ontario. You should Google it if you don't know it. It's very pretty and cool. And if you visit...come see me.

This pic was taken from my back deck. I love my view...in the summer though

Makes Your Heart Melt.....

Today I spent the day in Babyland. Literally. And I came out without being puked on.....that could be first for me.

My morning started off with Darling Hannah, my cousin's 6 week old little girl. She was so chill. She was all, "Whatev" when we put her in different poses. She is really sweet.

Then I went to Markham where I finally met Ellie, my close friend Sarah's little baby. Ellie lives in Vancouver right now, and she's here for three weeks visiting her Nana and Papa.....and she'll be getting sick of her Auntie Apryl after the three weeks is up because I'll be seeing lots of this adorable little girl.

She was amazing. What a little model! She was so relaxed and let us do whatever we wanted to her.....so we put a tutu on her, pearls and let her hang out on a baby grand piano! What a riot!

So here are a few teasers from today's shoots.....I'll post much more later. These girls will make your heart melt.

A Pat on the Back

I have to admit....it's REALLY hard to get back into the groove at work. Getting up in the morning, get ready, driving there, getting the job done, go to the gym and then come home. I'm beat!

But this week has been rough too. Many equipment problems, technical problems and me just not feeling like I'm into it yet.

But today something happened that made me feel like it's not all bad. My Supervising Producer sent me a really nice email today. He told me I'm doing a grea job. That's it. Very simple. But that small email that probably took him two seconds to write meant the world to me.

We all need a pat on the back once in a while. Sometimes just for no reason.

Another huge pat on the back for me this week was the response to my photography work on facebook. Lots of feedback and my little group now has way over 200 people. I'm so excited!

So, since I'm feeling like my ego has been massaged a little......I want to tell all of you: You're doing a great job (just incase no one told you that today).

Also, stay tuned for some awesome baby pics I'll be taking this weekend!

Back to Reality

My real job is as a news videographer. It's fun, it's stressful and very challenging. It can be creative in it's own right too through the filming and mostly through the writing.

After two weeks of total relaxation, I go back at it today. It was hard to get out of bed after so many days of sleeping in. But it's back to reality. Time to pick up the camera and microphone and go to Town. Time for strict deadlines, a stress-filled, hectic day and lots of driving.

I get to do amazing stuff. Just before Christmas I flew in a Griffon Helicopter with the Canadian Armed Forces to Sick Kid's Hospital in Toronto to deliver toys to the little kids. It was the most amazing day on the job.

I leave you now with a shot of me in action. Back to work!

Real Canadian Model.

She froze. Literally. I think she may have hypothermia.

My beautiful cousin Britt braved the -7 degree temperatures to model for me today....and I tell you, I owe her one. What a trooper! She never complained, never gave up and just wanted to keep going and do better. What a real Canadian Model.

No matter what the weather, what the time she's always willing to let me get my camera on her, and I am so thankful she lets me! Britt also has the most adorable two year old who I think should also be a model. We'll have to set up a separate session for little Brooklyn.

Here are some of my favourite shots from today's shoot....and can't wait for the next one...only let's do it when it's warmer!

I'm new here....

I can't tell you how excited I am to finally have the guts to start this blog. I have to admit...it feels great!

For the past five years I've been experimenting in photography. I love what you can do with a camera, lens and any object. The last year many brave people and very loyal friends have allowed me to take their pictures, shoot their weddings, their newest arrivals and everything in between. I couldn't love anything more...except for my husband.

With 2008 behind us (and what a fantastic year that was), I'm so excited for what 2009 has in store.

So, because I'm new here, I think it's time you get to know me:

Things I can't live without:
My husband Tobin who supports me completely and makes me laugh every single day.

My family. You have no idea how crazy they are.

My friends who never object to me turning the camera on them!

My pets. They are so cute and cuddly!

Throw in chocolate, coffee and red wine. That's me in a nutshell!

There will more to get to know over the course of the year.....and I promise you, it won't be boring!

All the best for 2009!!
